Kofax Ascent Capture provides sophisticated production-level document capture. Driving a broad range of scanners, Ascent Capture enables large volumes of paper documents to be captured electronically, indexed and then transferred to back-end Content Stores - such as Xerox DocuShare or SuperOffice CRM.
Not only can the product capture documents, it can also intelligently recognise and process them. Standard forms can be automatically recognised and processed accordingly - eliminating costly sorting of batches. Documents can be passed through Ascent Capture's recognition engine for the following processing:
- Barcode and Patch Code recognition.
- Optical Character Recognition (OCR).
- Handprint Character Recognition (ICR).
- Mark Recognition(OMR) - for example, ticks in boxes.
- Automated Image cleanup.
- The optional Web Validation Server allows remote indexing of documents by home workers or staff located in other offices.
Scalability
Starting off with a single, low cost, low capacity configuration, organisations can increase capacity by adding additional scanning, validation, QC, verification, recognition, and release stations. A low volume configuration can be quickly expanded to process more than 100,000 documents per day.
Usability and Easy Installation
Ascent Capture's user interface is renowned for operator ease of use. Each module in the system can be accessed as individual applications, or as a whole through the Batch Manager. Both Keyboard and mouse operation are well supported with many shortcut features.
Batch Orientation
The key to Ascent Capture is its powerful batch orientation for processing documents. System administrators use a simple menu driven interface to define processing procedures and rules for each document type to ensure that every document is scanned and validated in the same way.
Ascent Capture's Administration Module controls the setup and definition of all batch classes, document classes, form types, field types, validation scripts and release scripts within a highly configurable user interface.
Integrated Quality Control
Scanners are not perfect. The Quality Control/Rescan module allows quick, easy, and accurate identification of poor images. Poor images or improperly identified form types can be replace quickly to maintain batch efficiency and integrity.
Scripting and Customisation
Ascent Capture provides extensive scripting capabilities to allow administrators to customise its operation. The scripts can run in the Ascent Capture recognition, validation and indexing modules for field validation, database look-up. field formatting, enhanced recognition and tight integration with outside processes.
Custom form panels can be developed and added into the Scan, Quality Control and Indexing Modules - allowing almost unlimited customisation. These can be implemented using Visual Basic to created ActiveX controls which these modules host. Custom stages can also be developed that can perform any arbitrary processing on a batch of documents. For example, a custom module could be written that performs lookups on a legacy system, retrieving additional indexing data.
